Summer is back! The flowers are in full bloom, the weather is sunny and the kids are all out of school. Members of Ash Street Cooperative can be found tending to their gardens, taking walks through the community and resting on their porch lounge chairs.
Now is the perfect time to make the most out of your free time! With so many options for summer fun just around the corner from us, we though we'd compile a list for our Members to make life that much easier.
Visit the Lake
Hanging out at Lake Michigan is a great way to spend an entire afternoon. Grab a cooler, towels, sand toys for the kiddos and your bathing suit and head over to any one of the many beaches available nearby. Check out Whihala Beach, Rainbow Beach, North Avenue Beach, Oak Street Beach, and Foster Beach.
Take the Train Downtown
Downtown Chicago during the summer is so active and lively. There always seems to be some type of affair going on, whether it's live music or a corner act. The downtown offers access to multiple parks including: Maggie Daley Park, Grant Park and Millennium Park which always seem to have some action going on. There's boat tours, bike tours, bus tours and foot tours. There's even dining on the rooftops! Regardless of your style of entertainment, there will be something you enjoy in downtown Chicago this summer.
Visit a Museum
Visit one museum or visit them all! The Chicagoland area is home to over 60 museums including the "big ones": The Field Museum, The Alder Planetarium, The Museum of Science and Industry, The Chicago's Children's Museum and the DuSable Museum of African American History. But make room for visiting some of the "smaller" or lesser known ones to get a real feel for the life and culture of Chicago such as: The Money Museum, the DePaul Art Museum, The Glessner House, The Design Museum of Chicago, The Chicago Maritime Museum and the Chicago Architecture Center.
Attend a Festival
The Chicagoland area hosts more festivals, outdoor markets and events than you can possibly imagine, every summer. With Covid restrictions lifting, you can safely and comfortably attend any you'd like! Check out the Taste of Chicago, Chicago In Tune Festival, Rivinia Music Festival, Pride in the Park, Windy City Smokeout, Millennium Arts Festival, Lallapalooza and more!
Head Over to Park Forest Central Park
Central Park offers a playground for the kiddos, swings, a baseball diamond, nature walk, an outdoor pavilion for parties, and more. Check out the Great American Campout hosted every summer where residents pop up tents, light up the grills and relax under the stars.
